Caribbean events calendar: what’s on

As Europe cools down, moving into winter, the popular Caribbean is hotting up and is the destination of choice for many superyachts. From rum festivals to superyacht sailing regattas, the Caribbean has its own special flavor of events all with a relaxed vibe ideal for holiday time with friends and family. Peak season in the Caribbean runs from November to April, perfect for Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year getaways alike, there are plenty of events during this time. November 14th – 19th: Necker Cup, Necker Island, BVIs
Hosted on Richard Branson’s Necker Island the Necker Cup is a six-day world class Pro-Am Tennis event, where WTA Tour Players are paired with 16 amateur teams to battle it out for victory in this light hearted competition. Moor your yacht off the island, enjoy some tennis and all that beautiful Necker Island has to offer.

November 17th – 20th: Barbados Food and Rum Festival, Barbados.
A showcase of indulgent Caribbean cuisine on the stunning island of Barbados, featuring a number of international chefs creating gastronomical delights. Various venues host live entertainment, and of course the local Mount Gay Rum is flowing!

December 26th: Kite Flying Festival, Tobago.
A beautiful and different way to spend Boxing Day, the week after Christmas sees the skies of Tobago transformed into a kaleidoscope of colours and fluttering tails as home-made and huge professional kites in a truly unique Caribbean experience.

December 31st: New Year's Eve, St Barths 
The epitome of yachting glamour, see the New Year in on the beautiful island of St Barthelemy where you will be in the company of hundreds of other superyachts. Spectacular fireworks exploding over the water ensure this will be an unforgettable new year experience.

January 1st: Junkaroo Parade, Bahamas.
A massive carnival that fills the streets with the music and colours of the Caribbean. Parades welcome the New Year, with the largest parade in the capital, Nassau, with traditional junkaroo dancing running from 2 am to 8 am.

January 14th – 26th: Fiestas del la Calle San Sebastian, Puerto Rico.
This four-day festival has been hailed the Mardi Gras of Puerto Rico. Contemporary and traditional music, artisan crafts and island food make it a party not to be missed

February 13th – 16th: International Love Festival, Bermuda.
It doesn’t get much more romantic than a tropical island with spectacular scenery and pink beaches! For Valentine’s week Bermuda steps up its offerings, with movie screenings and fine dining from world class chefs.

March 9th – 12th: Moonsplash festival, Anguilla.
Enjoy a laid back atmosphere, listening to reggae beats under the palm trees watching the full moon reflected off the ocean, at the oldest independent music festival in the Caribbean.

March 10th – 13th: Loro Piana Caribbean Superyacht Regatta & Rendezvous, BVIs
This popular regatta, hosted at the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda, brings together sailing and motoryachts alike for a four day event for owners and charter guests. A motoryacht rendezvous programme runs alongside exciting sailing yacht racing.

March 17th – 20th: St Barths Bucket, St Barths.
Probably the most popular sailing superyacht regatta, the Bucket’s goal is for participants to “win the party,” and sees over 30 yachts compete over three days of racing. Laid back dockside hosting follows racing, and the clear warm waters of the island provide the perfect setting for this much-loved regatta.

15th – 23rd April: Bacchanal, Jamaica.
Kicking off in April, the carnival atmosphere takes over Jamaica, with the biggest events being held on the last weekend. Over 100,000 visitors come to experience the parade, music and dancing with the main events held in Kingston.

Even after peak season comes to an end there is still plenty going on in the Caribbean, including the St Lucia Jazz and Arts Festival, St Lucia, held 5th – 14th May, and of course the America’s Cup in Bermuda, running from 26th May – 27th June: America’s Cup, Bermuda with the Great Sound, acting as a stunning natural amphitheatre for thrilling racing.
