Charter off the beaten path this summer

Charter off the beaten path this summer

2nd March 2017
Any yacht charter holiday is sure to prove an incredibly memorable experience, but choosing a unique destination that is away from traditional charter locations can be one way to make the holiday even more special. The transient nature of yachts allows unprecedented access to some of the world’s most remote spots, making a superyacht the perfect base to explore off the beaten path. Picture being the only yacht for hundreds of miles, creating the only set of footprints on a deserted beach, or being immersed in a far-off culture and it is not hard to see the appeal. This summer season why not plan your own charter away from the milk run? With a number of the IYC fleet venturing to adventurous destinations, there is plenty of choice when considering where to charter.
It is no surprise that stunning Alaska is on many people’s bucket list as it boasts tranquil glacier-dotted scenery and incredible wildlife amongst its many charms. Enjoy a wide range of activities, from salmon fishing to sea kayaking, soak in geothermal pools, cruise up close to hulking glacial ice shelves, and enjoy the spectacular sight of humpback whales breaching in their natural environment. A yacht is perfect for visiting more adventurous destinations and her relaxed atmosphere is the perfect setting to enjoy a charter in Alaskan waters. Large exterior decks are ideal for enjoying the one-of-a-kind Alaskan landscape and generous interior spaces are ideal for guests to retreat to after a busy day exploring.

Like Alaska, the wonder of a charter in the fjords of Norway cannot be underestimated. Gliding through these still, cool waters is the perfect antidote to the hustle and bustle of European summer and with more than 2,500km of coastline the choice of where to go is endless. Guests will be able to marvel at the unique setting, with a magical combination of mountains flanking the fjords, majestic glaciers looming, tumbling waterfalls and beaches. Make sure you spot some of Norway’s wildlife, including reindeer, and pay a visit to some of the traditional villages that line the fjords. Of course Norway’s most memorable offering is a sighting of the natural lightshow of the Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis), but this is best viewed in the winter season and the summer offers the equally memorable sight of midnight sunshine, when the sun is visible at the heart of night time. Summer 2017 will see 25.72m (84’5”) Anne Viking chartering in the West Norway fjords. Perfectly suited to these waters, her experienced crew have spent extensive time here and can navigate the perfect itinerary to allow guests to make the most of all the country has to offer.

In stark contrast to the cooler waters of Alaska and Norway, the Pacific Islands offer your quintessential island paradise but without the crowds seen in many areas of the Caribbean. Particularly memorable for many yacht visitors is the cultural aspect on offer in the Pacific, with many traditional island cultures alive and well alongside the modern world. The sea is at the heart of life in the Pacific and when arriving by yacht you will not fail to draw the link between your arrival and that of the original navigators who discovered these islands for the first time. Beautiful Tahiti is a particularly popular destination thanks to its incredible diving opportunities and sea life, including whales. The choices for authentic cultural experiences in the Pacific are endless. Learn to paddle a traditional canoe and have celestial navigation explained to you, enjoy a traditional baked-earth oven meal, watch a fire dance or sample potent local brews. A visit for a traditional Sunday service in one of the churches of the Pacific Islands is an unforgettable experience where you will be embraced by the welcoming local people. With countless islands, archipelagos, deserted beaches and stunning anchorages the Pacific offers an incredibly varied itinerary for charter guests.
