S/Y DORIANA was originally built at Frederikssund shipyard in Denmark in 1930. The original Danish owner sailed her in Scandinavia until she was sold, then a more adventurous owner sailed her to the Caribbean and charted her mostly in the British Caribbean islands. In 2006 she was repaired, fresh and completely refitted, the envy of all classic yacht admires. The rebuild was extensive, the back bone of DORIANA was given a new life, all services engines and generators pipe work wiring and electronics were replaced, wood work was replaced or rebuilt. The original interior concept was maintained and reworked to a classic high gloss finished.
A true classic yacht where only simple maintenance is required to keep her active, she was built in a period before expensive regular refits became common practice. Her masts are disguised aluminum, even at a close glance it is hard to see they are not wood. Her top masts are recently replaced wood. Not only is she a pleasing site but carries a racing pedigree capable of putting up a good showing at any classic sailing regatta.
It is a well-kept secret that the enjoyment and exclusivity of DORIANA style classic yacht’s offer a low-cost revisit to the glory days of sailing in today’s world.

Originating from New Zealand, Bernie has had considerable experience at sea competing in many on and off shore yacht races, the whitbread Round The World sailing race being the most notorious. While always wanting to achieve successes he ventured into the financial markets and set up an option and stock market making company on the Amsterdam stock exchange, which he sold some years back. Always having been connected with yachting it was a matter of time before he returned to the industry and chose Van der Vliet Quality Yachts, a Dutch yacht broker and niche company representing mostly Dutch built yachts Internationally. After numerous years working with VDV the opportunity arrived to bring his experience and clientele to IYC. Passion and success are Bernie’s key drivers that together with his own reputation for fair play give him the comfort to deal with his clients and the industry.
