October is an excellent month for art lovers, with a number of fairs taking place. The most exclusive of these take place in Paris and London. From 3 – 6 October, head to the beautiful Regents Park to discover curated collections from the world’s leading galleries at the Frieze London. Across the channel in Paris, FIAC (Foire Internationale d’art Contemporain) is held in the stunning Grand Palais from 17 – 20 of October. This art fair brings together the artwork of the most influential artists in the modern art and design sector. With everything from modern masters to bright young talent on display, this is the perfect place to find a new piece to display on board your superyacht. For a really authentic cultural experience, head to the Seychelles from 23 – 29 October for their Creole Festival. Thoughts of the upcoming winter are banished, as this island-wide festival is a riot for the senses - full of wonderful colours, sights, sounds and smells.

Yachting

With Monaco Yacht Show and Cannes Yachting Festival over, the yachting industry starts to look toward another of the biggest show of the year, Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, or simply, FLIBS. This vast show is the highlight of the North American calendar, taking place from 30 October – 3 November around Fort Lauderdale’s Bahia Mar Yachting Centre. This year sees the exciting addition of the Superyacht Village and Marina, a celebration of all things superyacht. For sailing enthusiasts, the Barcolana 51 runs from 4–15 October off the Italian city of Trieste. This spectacular sailing event is dubbed the largest regatta in the world, and there is no better way to enjoy it than from the water, so charter a superyacht [insert link to extending the Summer season piece]for front row seats of the racing.

Sports

The Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe weekend runs from 5 – 6 October at the Paris Longchamp Racecourse. This exciting racing event includes 16 flat races, including the prestigious “Arc”. The iconic race is considered the ‘Holy Grail of flat racing’, with the winning horse being crowned the year’s best racehorse, so why not raise a glass of champagne and have a flutter. For tennis fans, the Rolex Shanghai Masters is held from 5 – 18 October. Expect the big names in tennis at this world class event, and with Rolex as a sponsor, a number of exclusive parties too.

Travel

Italy’s east coast is the perfect place to enjoy the last few weeks of balmy Mediterranean weather, but if you are keen to embrace all things autumnal, then Fall in New England is something that can’t be beaten. Charter a yacht to explore this coastline, where the changing leaves create a riot of colors from Maine through to Cape Cod. Indulge in all of the wonderful seasonal activities from picking pumpkins to some Halloween festivities and, as peak season is over, enjoy eating at your favorite restaurants without a reservation. In fact, the month is a celebration of all flavors New England, with Cape Cod’s Wellfleet OysterFest from 19–20 October, family scallop picking in Nantucket throughout the month, and Mystic Port’s Chowder Days Festival from 12–14 of October. Few things taste better on a cold day than a bowl of New England clam chowder!
