77.4m (253’11’’) Legend wins ‘Best Rebuilt Yacht’ at the World Superyacht Awards 2017
A highlight of the annual yachting industry calendar is the illustrious World Superyacht Awards (WSA), with a win at the Awards seen as a highly coveted accolade. IYC is very proud that a member of its sales fleet, 77.4m (253’11’’) Legend, was the winner of the ‘Best Rebuilt Yacht’ in the recent 2017 edition of the WSA hosted in Florence on 13 May. This well-deserved win was bestowed thanks to Legend’s extensive refit at Dutch yard Icon Yachts, which saw her completely transformed to become the world-class explorer yacht she is today.
Now perfectly suited to her intended use of taking her guests all around the world in the utmost of comfort and style she is a very special yacht with a rich history. Having begun life as a Russian icebreaker before being converted into a luxury yacht, her highly-experienced owner had an inspiring new vision for Legend, with a refit plan so extensive that only her hull and main engines remained intact. Key work undertaken including lengthening Legend by 3.6m to add a large swimming platform and 16-person waterfall-fed Jacuzzi, as well as converting her to achieve full MCA 13-36 passenger and SOLAS status. A particular challenge for her refit team was the addition of a class-approved and SOLAS compliant helipad with refueling facilities.
During the refit process every aspect of the yacht was rethought and refined to evolve each space, with the exterior lines also restyled for a slightly softer look. Dutch design house Diana Yacht Design developed the new interior, with a charge to ensure that each space had its own personality with all spaces also needing to seamlessly work together as a whole. It was this careful thought and attention to detail that particularly endeared the yacht to World Superyacht Award judges.
The resulting yacht boasts huge volumes and generous spaces both inside and out with several different rooms and areas for guests to choose from during longer trips away. Stand out features include a Balinese spa with its own sauna and beauty salon, and a 14 seater cinema for movie nights. Accommodation is extensive with the yacht able to welcome 26 guests in 13 cabins including an owner’s suite on a private deck, two VIPs, five doubles and five twins. Generous storage ensures a mind-boggling number of toys and tenders for guests to test out, with on board equipment also including a submarine and two snowmobiles as the ultimate tools for exploration.
