The history of Lürssen Yachts dates back to 1875 when Friedrich Lürssen established a small boatyard in Bremen-Vegesack, Germany. The shipyard started modestly, focusing on the construction and repair of fishing boats and river barges. Notable deliveries
Throughout its history, Lürssen Yachts has delivered vessels that rank among the most iconic and celebrated in the superyacht industry.
The 2000s marked a pivotal moment for Lürssen. The decade opened with the 97.2m CARINTHIA VII, followed by OCTOPUS, a 126.2m explorer motor yacht fitted with innovations such as a helicopter pad and a submarine, which became a symbol of opulence and technical prowess. The same decade also brought the 138m RISING SUN and the 93m schooner sailing yacht EOS.
The 2010s began with the 124m KATARA. In 2013 the yard delivered the 180.6m AZZAM, the world’s longest private motor yacht at her delivery, followed by the 123m GOLDEN ODYSSEY. The 156m DILBAR made headlines for her size and volume and was named Motor Yacht of the Year at the 2017 World Superyacht Awards, where she also won Best Displacement Motor Yacht of 3,000GT and above. The decade closed with the 136m HADAR (ex-FLYING FOX), which entered service in 2019 as the world’s largest charter yacht.
The 2020s brought the 141.6m NORD, the 115.1m AHPO and the 160m BLUE, the yard’s second-largest yacht at her delivery in 2022 and one of the biggest in the world. The 122m KISMET was named Motor Yacht of the Year at the 2025 World Superyacht Awards, while the 134.2m DEEP BLUE was launched in 2025, Lürssen’s 150th anniversary year.
Design collaborations on models and projects
The German shipyard’s integration of renowned architects, designers and stylists into its design process has had a lasting impact on the distinctiveness of Lürssen’s yachts, as evident in the flagship AZZAM, whose exterior was penned by Nauta Design and interior by Christophe Leoni.
Lürssen has come together with Norwegian designer Espen Øino to produce some of its most iconic vessels. Øino’s gift for sleek lines and complementary detailing blends with the yard’s engineering know-how, as seen in the exteriors of DILBAR, the 106.1m AMADEA and HADAR.
The partnership between Lürssen and Winch Design has produced some of the most luxurious and finely detailed yachts afloat, among them the 111m ALAIYA (ex-TIS), the 90m PHOENIX 2 and the 85m ACE, as well as the interior of DILBAR.
Terence Disdale’s work for the yard is defined by timeless aesthetics: he designed both the exterior and interior of BLUE and of the 146.4m OPERA.
Harrison Eidsgaard brought a contemporary edge to the portfolio with the exterior of the 95m MADSUMMER, whose interior is by Laura Sessa. Marc Newson takes that direction further: his unconventional design shapes the 114.2m NAUSICAÄ inside and out.
Nuvolari Lenard is behind some of the yard’s most awarded recent designs. The studio styled AHPO inside and out, earning Outstanding Exterior Design (60m and above) at the 2023 BOAT International Design & Innovation Awards and Yacht of the Year at the 2023 International Superyacht Society Awards. Its exterior for KISMET, the third yacht of that name whose interiors Reymond Langton Design has created for the same owner, won Outstanding Exterior Design (70m and above) at the 2025 BOAT International Design & Innovation Awards, where KISMET also took Outstanding Lifestyle Feature.
