Listing your Yacht for Charter
Many owners find that there are weeks or months where it is not possible to be on board their yacht as often as they would like to. Rather than keep the yacht stationary in port with a full crew on payroll, making the yacht available for select charters is a good option to keeping it in smooth operation.
Our Charter Management team will take care of all contracts and negotiations with charter clients, while ensuring that the yacht is available and in perfect condition whenever you wish to step aboard. Charter revenues supplement your yacht’s operating budget and offset expenses – big ticket items like fuel, dockage and utilities are taken care of by the charterer.
Getting the maximum value for your yacht
IYC employs some of the most experienced and qualified charter management professionals in the industry. For each yacht we develop a targeted marketing strategy, with the right value proposition, that will position it competitively on the international yacht market. IYC will raise the profile of your yacht, negotiate the most favorable short-term returns and increase its reputation to achieve a higher resale value over time.
Listing your yacht for charter will not only create value from a financial perspective. Our experience shows that frequent charters keep a yacht's crew motivated and their training well practiced. They can build their expertise and geographical knowledge, along with seasoning the softer skills needed to provide superior service.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Charter Management is a comprehensive professional service in which a management company oversees the marketing, promotion, bookings, contract negotiation, and operational coordination of a yacht while it is available for charter. This is done in close collaboration with the owner’s team and crew to ensure seamless operations and optimal presentation.
Offering your yacht for charter is an effective way to keep your crew engaged while helping offset the costs of ownership.
Chartering a yacht can help offset a significant portion of ownership costs, though profitability varies. It depends on factors such as the chosen charter program and the yacht’s availability. For example, a yacht with greater availability for charter has more potential to generate revenue, whereas a yacht reserved primarily for owner use will have more limited earning opportunities.
Each yacht is overseen by an experienced Charter Manager, supported by a dedicated team. Their primary role is to manage the yacht’s charter calendar and maximise its commercial performance.
This includes promoting the yacht to the market, negotiating charter contracts on behalf of the owner, and working closely with the owner and crew to ensure the yacht is well positioned and meets market expectations. The Charter Manager also oversees the yacht’s reputation, ensures compliance with current charter regulations, and collaborates with marketing teams to enhance visibility.
Ongoing communication with the owner ensures full transparency on market conditions, bookings, and overall performance.
Charter Management fees are structured in line with industry standards and are based on a commission from the charter revenue generated. Typically, 80% of the charter fee is paid to the owner, while the remaining 20% represents the total brokerage commission.
This commission is shared between the parties involved in securing the booking, with 15% allocated to the Charter Broker representing the client and 5% to the Charter Management company.
Not all yachts are immediately eligible for charter. A yacht must meet specific commercial compliance requirements to be offered on the charter market. If the yacht is already commercially compliant, it can typically be marketed within a short timeframe. If upgrades, certifications, or licensing are required, additional time may be needed before the yacht is ready to enter the charter market.
The charter rate is determined by the owner in close consultation with their dedicated Charter Manager. IYC will provide data-driven recommendations based on market analysis, comparable yachts, demand trends, and the yacht’s unique selling points.
Yes, owners retain final approval on all bookings and may decline specific guests at their discretion.
Frequent charters help keep crew engaged, motivated, and consistently operating at a high standard. Regular guest interaction further enhances service skills and expands the crew’s experience across different cruising regions and itineraries.
In addition, charter guests typically leave gratuities at their discretion, commonly ranging between 10% and 20% of the charter fee, providing a significant additional incentive for crew performance and retention.

The company uses data-driven marketing strategies and analytics to target the most relevant HNWI audiences, optimize campaign performance, and maximize qualified charter enquiries for each yacht.
Yacht attendance at yacht shows is not mandatory, however, it is strongly recommended. As most charters are booked through professional charter brokers, participating in key charter shows and open houses helps enhance a yacht’s visibility and credibility within the market.
IYC attends all major yacht and charter shows and will advise on the most appropriate participation strategy based on your yacht’s charter program and positioning.
