Join your charter yacht in Portland, where you will head up the historic Damariscotta River. As you enter Christmas Cove the bustle of Portland gives way to calm scenery, and you can enjoy a lunch or dinner in one of the marina’s Inns.
After overnighting in Christmas Cove, you will make your way to Monhegan Island, which is popular during the summer months for its rugged hiking trails. Following an impressive cruise north along the Sounds of the Maine coastline, you will arrive in Camden – the ‘Jewel of the Coast’. Year-round you will find something to do, and in the summer months, the harbour will be full of sailboats. With green forests and Victorian houses, Camden typifies New England and hosts many festivals throughout the year.
Sail around the island in East Penobscot Bay to reach Butter Island, where you may see seals sunning themselves on the rocks. If you’re feeling active hike up to the top of Montserrat Hill on the island for panoramic views, then enjoy some of the area’s famous lobster.
Your yacht will take you on a winding journey through the islands and sounds of the coast to enter Blue Hill Bay. Wander around the town and experience the diverse culture and many galleries of the town, then take a walk up the hill to admire the stunning outlook across Mt Desert Island. Join the locals in the evening walk where you will see a stunning view of Downeast Maine.
Cruising slowly around the islands of the bay you will make your way into the impressive fjord of Somes Sound, which runs deep into Mt Desert Island. As you circle the island take in the stunning views of green forest-coated cliffs rising from the seas.
A short trip to the northern side of Mt Desert Island will take you past the Cranberry Isles – named after one of the region's famous exports – to your final stop in Bay Harbour.
