September is the busiest month in the yachting calendar, and so the difficulty is choosing which of the glitzy shows and regattas to attend. Fortunately, the most exclusive and exciting events are all to be found on the beautiful French Riviera, so if you can’t make up your mind, then go to them all.
The first major yachting show of the season is Cannes Yachting Festival. This five-day event runs from 10-15 September, with a special late night event on the Friday. Highlights include the Luxury Gallery, a space dedicated to luxury products and lifestyle, and the brand new Sail Area for sailing yacht enthusiasts. Take a week or so to recover from the partying in Cannes before the world famous Monaco Yacht Show. Running from 25-28 September, this is without a doubt the most important event of the superyacht calendar. Head to the impossibly glamorous Port Hercules to admire the world's very finest superyachts and latest toys and tenders. Immediately after, San Tropez hosts the Les Voiles de St Tropez Regatta from 28 September to 6 October. Spend the days with the crowds watching the nail-biting Rolex racing, followed by evenings of champagne and parties. Celebrating its twentieth year in 2019, this event is sure to be a special one.

Travel
As winter approaches in Europe the days are getting shorter, but you can escape the cold for a little longer with many warm weather options still available around the Mediterranean. Consider chartering a superyacht in the French Riviera, tying in with the many yacht events in the area – spend days exploring this stunning coastline before anchoring and taking a tender ashore to enjoy the many exclusive show parties. If you would prefer to escape the crowds then head to the Eastern Mediterranean. IYC recommends a charter along Croatia’s Dalmatian Coast, where the sunshine, crystal clear waters, beautiful port towns and clusters of perfect islands are guaranteed to make you forget the upcoming winter months. Despite being blissfully free of tourists, September in Croatia still has some exciting events on offer. These include musical events on 7, 14 and 27 September in the impressive St Michael’s Fortress of Sibenik, and for the younger generation, Outlook Festival. Running from 4-8 September this sound system festival features headline acts, and is based around an abandoned fort in Pula.
