Shipyard History
Founded in 1873, Benetti is one of the best known luxury yachting brands, and IYC’s team has worked on the sale and charter of a number of significant Benetti builds. The yard has facilities in Viareggio and Livorno, and specializes in the production of custom and semi-custom luxury yachts. Solid construction and a reputation for excellence has kept Benetti among the top-ranked builders in the world and their yachts are recognized worldwide.
Benetti was purchased by the Azimut Group, owned by Paolo Vitelli, in 1985, to form the Azimut-Benetti Group. The two well-known Italian yacht brands combined into one big luxury yacht builder that produces boats that are popular for both sale and charter. Benetti is always active with the release of new models, which helps to maintain its popularity with clients.
Thanks to the high-quality construction, generous volumes and cleverly designed spaces, Benetti builds are a popular choice on the brokerage market, with several Benetti yachts available for sale and charter through IYC.
Shipyard Specialty
Building in composite, aluminum and steel, Benetti’s facilities total over 300,000sqm at three yard sites. Able to build yachts from 34m to over 100m, the yard has built more than 400 yachts in its long history. A forward-thinking and innovative builder, Benetti has also retained its long-standing values of experience, skill and a passion for fine craftsmanship. The ‘Benetti Quality System’ ensures a meticulous construction process, with numerous quality checks throughout. This results in high-quality award-winning pedigree yachts in the semi and full-custom segment, with the yard working hand-in-hand with clients to achieve a yacht that perfectly realizes their vision.
Notable deliveries and models
Under the leadership of Paolo Vitelli, Benetti retained its top spot in the yachting industry in terms of volume of units delivered. With smaller yacht models made of composite materials, Benetti gained popularity in the 25m and 44m size range in the early 2000s, such as the Benetti Legend 85, Benetti Tradition 100, Benetti Classic 35 and 37 and the Benetti Vision 44. During the same period, Benetti began building the 50m steel-hulled motor yacht Golden Bay series. Many full-custom Benetti yachts were built but the three most iconic Benetti superyachts to date are the 80m Kingdom 5KR (ex-Nabila) once owned by Donald Trump, the 70m Freedom (ex-Reverie) and the 65m Ambrosia. In more recent years, the yard entered the 100m plus yacht segment with the deliveries of IJE, Luminosity and Lana.
The large portfolio of Benetti models comprises five ranges, plus a full-custom option. The most recent semi-custom models launched by Benetti stretch from 34m to 75m in both composite and steel hull construction: Motopanfilo 37 Kojo, B.Yond, Oasis, B.Now and B.Century.
Design collaborations on models and projects
Since the Benetti shipyard takeover by the Azimut Group, two Italian designers have been responsible for reviving and shaping the Benetti style; Stefano Righini took on the yard’s composite model range, including the new 37m B.Yond, while Stefano Natucci has designed most of the steel-hulled custom motor yachts. In recent years, Benetti has appointed new international designers to draw its latest models. Giorgio Casetta penned the Delfino 95 and Mediterraneo 116 exterior lines, as well as the Diamond 44 in the composite built range. He also worked on the B.Century range with the delivery of Calex. The British design studio RWD collaborated with Benetti on the exterior designs for the Oasis and B.Now series. RWD was also appointed to design the 108m IJE delivered in 2019. Dutch designer Cor D. Rover was selected to work on the 67m Seasense completed in 2017. For the development of the Benetti Motopanfilo 37m, her exterior style was entrusted to Italian designer Francesco Struglia.
