Broward Marine occupies a distinguished place in American yachting history, where craftsmanship met ambition on Florida’s Atlantic shore. From its founding in 1948 by Frank and Gertrude Denison to its later evolution and challenges, the brand has left an indelible legacy in custom yacht construction. Though new builds have slowed, Broward’s lineage endures in refits, heritage and the marks left by its more than 300 launches.
The early decades saw the yard balance defense contracts and private commissions, establishing a reputation for precision and reliability. As the luxury motoryacht era matured, Broward adapted, shifting materials, innovating propulsion, and expanding geographically. Its peak years produced vessels ranging from mid-size custom yachts to full superyachts, often blending classic style with technical advancement.
Today, Broward functions more as a steward of its existing fleet, through refits, restoration, and service, while the echoes of its golden era still resonate. For owners of Broward vessels or clients seeking insight into that heritage, the story of Broward reflects both the promise and the volatility of yacht building in the modern age.

An Overview of the Shipyard's History, Specialty, Iconic Builds, and Partnerships
Broward Shipyard
Broward is an iconic American yacht brand, known for its quality yachts. Frank Denison purchased Dooley’s Dry Dock in 1948 and, from the base that company provided, founded Broward Marine in 1953, first working on naval projects before shifting to the world of luxury yachts. Through the 70s and 80s, Broward’s range of services expanded from construction to service, maintenance, and full refits.
Over the course of the company’s history, and through the hands of several owners, the yard has launched approximately 300 yachts, building in both steel and aluminium. Broward vessels are popular on both the sale and charter market as the work of a respected, pedigree brand. The IYC team has a lot of knowledge and experience in the Broward brand and is well placed to advise on Broward-built yachts.
