Columbus Yachts

Shipyard History

Founded in 1967, Palumbo Group has been an active presence in the commercial ship building and repair market. In 2008, the company entered the luxury yacht market with the launch of the Columbus Yachts superyacht brand, and has since been part of Palumbo Superyachts division along with ISA Yachts, Mondomarine and Extra Yachts. Palumbo Superyachts boasts three new build and refit facilities in Naples, Ancona and Savona, and is able to deliver a comprehensive selection of model sizes from 24m through to 120m. The 2013 launch of the Columbus 40S Hybrid (now known as Leudin I) marked the first Columbus Yacht delivered by the Italian shipyard, with six completed since its creation. The largest Columbus Yachts project to date is the 80m Dragon, launched in 2019. Customers are offered a wide range of models, including sport, tri-deck and explorer yacht options.

Shipyard Specialty

Columbus Yachts is focusing on the construction of build projects ranging from 37m to 120m in its Naples, Ancona and Savona shipyards, along with offering maintenance and refit services. The current yacht model selection from the shipyard includes monohulls with both semi-displacement and full-displacement configurations in both steel and aluminum hulls. The builder also offers the possibility of full customization for bespoke projects according to the clients' demands. Clients can choose from the variety of models and fully customize the interior of the yacht to meet their individual tastes and lifestyle.

Notable deliveries and models

Columbus Yacht's delivery record has slowly been increasing, with six units delivered between 2013 and 2019. To date, Columbus Yachts completed motor yachts ranging from 40m to 80m only: 80m Dragon, 56m Taiba, 54m Armada (ex Prima), 49m K2 and finally 40m yachts Mrs D (ex Katia) and Leudin I (ex Eleonora III).

Through the development of new models to expand their portfolio, the yacht builder's total fleet is set to double by 2024. Current models delivered range from 40m to 80m and include options from the Sport, Classic, Atlantique and Crossover series. The Crossover range focuses on explorers, and the Atlantique series combines elegance with range capacity and their “Architecture for Voyagers” philosophy.

Design collaborations on models and projects

Since the genesis of the Columbus Yachts brand, the Italian naval architecture and design studio Hydro Tec has been involved in most of the company's built projects, overseeing engineering and exterior design. They first collaborated on the 40S Hybrid in the Columbus Sport line, as well as the current Classic and Crossover ranges, with renowned Luca Dini handling the design for the 50m motor yacht K2. Columbus Yachts' Italian facilities are currently producing semi-custom projects that will be delivered in 2023 and 2024. Hydro Tec had a hand in designing two 40m Columbus Crossovers, which feature an interior carried out by Francesco Guida Design. Meanwhile, the Ancona yard is building the 50m full-custom Project Lady, featuring exterior and interior lines undertaken by Marco Casali Too Design. Hot Lab Studio is involved in Columbus Atlantique range, with three units currently in production.
