IYC is proud to release their new video in their ongoing series “Inside The Shed,” offering an inside look at Cantiere delle Marche’s (CdM) headquarters in Ancona, Italy. "INSIDE THE SHED: Cantiere delle Marche and The Rise of Explorer Yachts" sees Matthew Stone, Sales Consultant and Managing Partner California IYC together with Michel Chryssicopoulos, Global Managing Partner at IYC and Vasco Buonpensiere, Co-Founder and CEO of CdM, for a tour through the yard, their facilities, and a few projects currently under construction.
The video begins with Matthew Stone, Sales Consultant and Managing Partner California IYC introducing the partnership between IYC and CdM, merging strengths around the explorer yachts trend to meet the increasing demand of clients in this segment.
Matthew Stone joins Michel Chryssicopoulos, Global Managing Partner at IYC, and Vasco Buonpensiere, Co-Founder and CEO at Cantiere delle Marche, in the CdM showroom and for a tour of a 141’ (43m) CUSTOM PROJECT with exterior and interior design by Paszkowski Design, in construction for a repeat client of CdM who moved from a series yacht to a fully custom yacht built equally for exploration and for family time.
Vasco Buonpensiere offers tips to viewers on making the move from series yacht to custom build, including the importance of communication with the shipyard to tailori the build entirely around the client’s unique vision and needs. “Every explorer yachtsman,” he says, “explores in a different way. Every time the challenge is adapting your way of thinking about the engineering and design.”
The video also takes us on a tour of a 86’ (26m) DARWIN EXPLORER YACHT in build, a real pocket explorer that offers ample space for a yacht of her size. A fully capable yacht, Michel Chryssicopoulos aptly notes this yacht exemplifies that, “size does not define an explorer boat.” Indeed, Vasco Buonpensiere adds, “an explorer yacht is a yacht which does not limit the owner is what they want to do. An explorer yacht is seaworthiness, sturdiness, range, capacity of storage, and most of all, over engineering.”
PROJECT MAVERICK, a FLEXPLORER 146’ (44.5m) host to their next visit is a brilliant example of over-engineering. Standing on one of its shadowed decks, Matthew Stone explains just how this yacht resonates with the US market. With the ability to carry up to a 33’ tender, it is truly perfect for use in the Bahamas, the US, and the Caribbean. The FLEXPLORER 143 will be on display with IYC at the Fort Lauderdale InternationAL Boat Show 2023.
Stepping inside, Matthew, Michel, and Vasco highlight how the interior design of explorer yachts has evolved as they work more and more with renowned interior designers and bring the traditional “white yacht” luxury feel to these explorer vessels.
IYC has been CdM’s official USA representative since March 2023. To find out more about the explorer trend and the work CdM and IYC are doing together, read our longer editorial feature from our most recent HORIZONS magazine.
