This month, a group of IYC clients was invited to take part in the ‘Bimini Wahoo Mayhem’, a fishing tournament in the Bahamas to catch Wahoo, one of the fastest fish in the ocean.
The event was organized by IYC broker Matthew Stone, who invited select individuals to experience this heart-racing fishing trip. “I have a couple of clients who are big fishing enthusiasts, so this was a great opportunity to get out on the water and do something they enjoy.”
The event took place off the shores of Bimini, a Bahamian island close to Fort Lauderdale. The two-day tournament was hosted on board the mothership Kemosabe, an 80’ Lazzara that is for sale with IYC, with the fishing taking place from a 42’ Scout, sold by Stone this summer.
Stone explains that one of the individuals on the trip is the owner of a 100’ yacht and is looking to build an expedition vessel, as well as a larger game boat whose sole purpose is to fish and dive. “This trip was to say thank you to these clients, showcase the waters of Bimini, experience the thrill of fishing, and engage in some friendly competition,” he remarks.
The nature of fishing for Wahoo is fast-paced and specific to the region, cruising up to 13-20 knots throughout the day to cover as much ground as possible. “It’s a very technical way of fishing, and as it was the first time for all of us on this particular boat, so we’re proud that we caught a few!” says Stone. This type of tournament not only showcases the best of the fishing grounds in the Bahamas but also illustrates the quality of the vessels, with the boats traveling up to 100 miles in one direction to target the fish.
An excellent vacation option for fishing enthusiasts, the IYC charter team has years of experience in organizing fishing expeditions on board vessels in South Florida, The Bahamas, and The Caribbean. For more information, contact the team today.
