Shipyard History
Founded in 1978 by Frans Heesen in Oss, The Netherlands, Heesen Yachts was the first Dutch shipyard to use aluminum for its yachts' hulls. Since then they have become a world leader in the design, engineering and construction of high-performance motor yachts. In 1992 they expanded their business to include the construction of traditional displacement yachts made from steel hulls, and today they deliver superyachts within the 30-80 meters size range, and beyond.
The current fleet includes aluminum, steel, displacement, semi-displacement and the revolutionary fast displacement (FDHF) developed by Van Oossanen Naval Architects. Today Heesen Yachts has continued to pioneer the use of aluminum to produce seaworthy yet fast performance superyachts. The yard is a member of SYBAss (Superyacht Builders Association).
Shipyard Specialty
The Dutch shipyard delivers semi-custom and full-custom projects with its portfolio keeping on growing. Each Heesen vessel is tailored to its owner, always adhering to Heesen’s main principle: "Power and Beauty. Confidence and Performance". This means no two yachts by Heesen are the same. This approach is brought to life with the company’s meticulous attention to detail and its incredible reputation within the yachting community. All Heesen builds include the latest technology and engineering advancements as well as the time-honoured tradition of Dutch craftsmanship. Notable deliveries and models
The shipyard gained popularity in the early 2000s with the Heesen 3700, a fast 37m flybridge motor yacht built entirely in aluminum. Dutch studio Omega Architects penned her exterior lines, and ten units of the model were delivered.
Frank Laupman, founder of Omega Architects, has shaped most of Heesen’s yacht designs over a decades-long partnership with the yard. Among his landmark Heesens is the 65m motor yacht GALACTICA STAR, delivered in 2013 as the yard’s largest yacht at the time and the world’s first all-aluminum fast-displacement yacht. Other models designed by Omega Architects and built by Heesen include the Heesen 4700, the Steel FDHF class behind the 55m LAURENTIA and AGNETHA, the Aluminium FDHF class that produced the 50m HOME, Heesen’s first hybrid yacht, alongside ORION, the Aluminium Semi-displacement series seen in the 50m AQUAMARINE and ALP, and the Aluminium FDHF class, whose first hull, the 56.7m SANTOSHA, built as Project Akira, won her category at the 2025 World Superyacht Awards. Beyond Omega’s work, the 50m Steel FDHF class, styled by Harrison Eidsgaard, extends the range in steel, with Project Grace as its first hull.
Design collaborations on models and projects
Heesen has also proven its capability to build full-custom yachts such as the 80m GENESIS, the multi-award-winning 70m GALACTICA SUPER NOVA, the award-winning 67m SPARTA, 60m LUSINE and ULTRA G and the award-winning 51m IRISHA. These projects have been penned by a wide range of renowned yacht designers, including Winch Design, Espen Øino International, Omega Architects, Sinot Yacht Architecture & Design, Reymond Langton Design, Harrison Eidsgaard, Cristiano Gatto Design and Clifford Denn Design.
Alongside its full-custom work, Heesen develops speculative and smart-custom yachts, starting construction before a buyer is found. Owners who join a project during the build can personalize the details that make the yacht their own while benefiting from a shorter delivery time.
