Founded in 1985 by Giuseppe Balducci and still owned by the family-run Overmarine Group, the builder helped define the open-style superyacht. Owners can choose from three distinct lines. The Maxi Open series delivers signature Mangusta lines and serious pace. Shipyard History
Named after the tenacious mongoose, the Mangusta brand was founded to deliver fast cruising, open-designed superyachts to the global market. The yard was founded as part of the Overmarine Group by the Balducci family in 1985, and this thoroughly Italian brand is still owned and managed by the Balducci family, with Giuseppe Balducci’s two children Maurizio and Katia both integral members of the business. The first iconic model launched by the company was the Mangusta 80 Open, a 24m planing-hulled fast yacht powered by waterjets. With open vessels traditionally being small and sporty with little room for luxury comforts, this model was a game changer. As the brand developed, so did the size of its yachts, with over 90 of the 300 vessels launched to date measuring over 100ft.
With sporty and streamlined models which defines the Mangusta brand, over the past three decades the Overmarine Group has proven that the company’s vision and innovation set trends in the superyacht industry with a fleet destined to grow in the future.

With shipyard facilities located in Viareggio and Pisa, Mangusta now boasts a wide range of semi-custom luxury yacht models: MaxiOpen, GranSport and Oceano.
The three yacht lines give clients the opportunity to customize their yacht interior and layout to their tastes.The variety in Mangusta's yacht model lines enables clients to choose between a luxury motor yacht that offers high speeds or a large range capacity depending on the owner’s needs and lifestyle. The yard offers GRP, aluminum or steel hull building options.
Notable deliveries and models
Mangusta entered the displacement yacht market in 2016 with the launch of the 42.3m tri-deck motor yacht NAMASTE, the first Mangusta Oceano 42 and Overmarine’s first steel-and-aluminum yacht, marking a significant expansion of the brand beyond its renowned high-performance Maxi Open yachts. The Oceano range has grown to include the Oceano 39, 44, 50 and 52, and the 49.9m ALISA, an Oceano 50, won Displacement Motor Yachts below 499GT (45m and above) at the 2022 World Superyacht Awards. The all-aluminum GranSport range runs from the GranSport 34 to the flagship GranSport 54, and the Maxi Open REV series includes the Mangusta 104 REV and Mangusta 165 REV.
Design collaborations on models and projects
Alberto Mancini Yacht Design developed the Mangusta Oceano and GranSport lines, creating a contemporary design language for the Italian shipyard. The GranSport models earned recognition in successive years: the first GranSport 54 won Best Exterior Design (50–82m) at the 2018 World Yachts Trophies and Power Yacht (over 40m) at the 2019 International Yacht & Aviation Awards, followed in the same category in 2020 by the 45.3m MA, a GranSport 45, and in 2021 by the GranSport 33 in Motor Yacht (25–40m). For the fast-yacht segment, Mangusta collaborated with Igor Lobanov Design to reinvent its iconic Maxi Open range as the REV series, and the 49.9m REBELLIOUS (ex-N1), a 165 REV, won Outstanding Exterior Motor Yacht Design (40m to 59.9m) at the 2023 BOAT International Design & Innovation Awards. The Maxi Open REV line represents the brand’s high-performance DNA, the Oceano range is designed for extended ocean cruising, and the GranSport line bridges these two philosophies within a fast-displacement platform.
