Shipyard History
Sunreef Yachts, a globally recognized Polish shipyard, was founded in 2002 by Francis Lapp in the historic city of Gdańsk. From the outset, Sunreef set out to revolutionize the luxury yachting market by specializing in custom-built catamarans, a niche segment largely untapped at the time. The shipyard's innovative approach combined multihull stability with opulent design, quickly establishing a new standard in the industry.
At the heart of Sunreef Yachts' innovation is Francis Lapp, its founder and leader. Born in France in 1958, Lapp began his career in electric power and construction, eventually starting his own business. A passionate rally racer, he first visited Poland for a rally and saw its potential for growth in the 1990s. He established himself there, producing electrical devices for international brands and expanding into design and installation services for large industrial sites.
In Poland, Lapp discovered a passion for sailing, starting with small racing catamarans and progressing to larger cruising catamarans. He set up a travel agency offering charters in the Indian Ocean, which flourished due to demand for spacious, luxurious catamarans. Realizing a market gap for such yachts, he founded Sunreef Yachts to build large, custom luxury multihulls.
Today, Sunreef Yachts is a global leader in luxury sail and power catamarans, known for their bespoke designs and showcased at premier yacht shows worldwide, including Cannes, Monaco, Miami, and Singapore.
Shipyard Specialty
Every vessel crafted at Sunreef Yachts is a customized masterpiece, a vision realized with meticulous attention to detail to provide unmatched comfort, style, and luxury. In 2003, Sunreef Yachts introduced the world's first 74-foot luxury ocean-going catamaran complete with a flybridge, setting a new standard in yacht design. Since then, Sunreef has continuously pushed the boundaries of innovation, developing new models and utilizing composite and sustainable materials, even incorporating patterned cast solar cells into the hull surfaces. With a strong commitment to environmental consciousness, the Sunreef Yachts Eco catamarans, deliver exceptional autonomy and energy efficiency for environmentally conscious luxury cruising.
Notable deliveries and models
Sunreef offers a diverse range of catamaran models, spanning from 50 to 164 feet, allowing potential clients to select the perfect model that aligns with their lifestyle. Among the most successful models to date are the Sunreef 80' Sail and Sunreef 80' Power, such as Felicita and Colibri, as well as the Sunreef 100' Power, Thea VI, which was delivered in 2024. The catamaran yacht builder continues to expand its lineup with new models like the Sunreef Ultima Range, spanning from 44ft through to the all new Sunreef Ultima 111'. The catamaran builder also has developed the new Sunreef Superyacht Range, spanning from 35m Sail through to the 50m Explorer motor yacht.
Design collaborations on models and projects
Over two decades, Sunreef Yachts has grown into a world leader in luxury multihull production, with a portfolio that includes both sail and power yachts ranging from 50 to over 100 feet. Known mostly for in-house engineering and innovation, Sunreef recently started a new design collaboration with the Dutch studio Phathom defining the new catamaran model Sunreef 111' Ultima.
