Entering its second edition this June, the Cyclades Cup has quickly established itself within the Mediterranean superyacht racing circuit. The exclusive event combines competitive sailing with authentic Greek hospitality, setting it apart from traditional race events.

After a hugely successful inaugural edition last year that attracted 13 prestigious superyachts to the island of Antiparos - and with IYC returning as a gold sponsor - the 2025 event promises to bring even more excitement, bringing Greek heritage and industry expertise together.

What makes the Cyclades Cup unique is its philosophy, "created by owners for owners." As regatta founder and seasoned superyacht owner of 164'1" (50m) ALMYRA II, Mrs. Ilia Riga explains: "This isn't about commercial interests - it's about making people feel at home here within our islands, bringing people with similar interests together to have great fun." The owner-centric approach is reflected in the race format, racing the official Corinthian Class category while encouraging owners to take the helm rather than relying on professional race crews.

Organized in collaboration with the Yacht Club of Greece, the regatta was born out of a vision to bring modern superyacht racing to Greek waters. "The combination of the Yacht Club's expertise in racing and our passion for organizing regattas made for a highly successful collaboration," adds Mrs. Riga. Last year, yachts came from around the world, from Australia and Germany to Italy and France. "Everyone came together and enjoyed some great racing full of spirit and energy," adds Mrs. Riga.

The race maintains an intimate atmosphere, remaining invitation-only for sailing yachts above 30 meters. New for this year, invites have been extended to the J class yachts. Paying homage to the competition's Greek traditions, racing categories are inspired by the names of Greek mythological figures - Meltemi, Scythian, and Apollo - adding elements of ancient tradition to a modern competition.

As a race location, Antiparos offers steady winds and a protected bay with a stable anchorage - crucial for the superyacht community. "Even during the Meltemi winds, yachts are comfortable on anchor here," notes Mrs. Riga, highlighting the location's natural advantages. The island also serves as an ideal hub for exploring the rest of the Cyclades, with several of the islands accessible within a 10-mile radius.

More than just the competition, the Cyclades Cup is an event with a carefully curated social calendar of sundowners, gourmet dinners, and cultural excursions. The 2025 edition will continue to expand these offerings, particularly cultural aspects while attracting the next generation of sailors to maintain the regatta's future legacy.

The June timing of the Cyclades Cup is strategic, providing those who attend perfect conditions before the peak Greek yachting summer season. "June offers long days, steady winds, and fresh energy before summer begins; the atmosphere is calm, and the waters are perfect for racing," concludes Mrs. Riga.

Victory at the Cyclades Cup is celebrated with a distinctive prize and yet another feature marking the event's spirit. Winners are presented with a replica Cycladic head, crafted in white marble and inspired by the Museum of Cycladic Art in Athens.

As the second edition of the Cyclades Cup approaches, anticipation builds. Drawing from a strong maritime background, this regatta will bridge Greece's heritage with modern superyacht racing and the friendly hospitality of Antiparos, creating a new tradition on the superyacht regatta scene.
