Costa Rica Yacht Charter Guide

The undisputed ecological capital of the world, Costa Rica is home to 5% of the world’s biodiversity within only 0.03% of the earth’s surface. It’s a small country with a big natural playground for anyone who feels delighted when in nature. There are two areas suitable for charters. There are two areas suitable for charters. The beautiful OSA Peninsula is the first - this hotspot for flora and fauna is ideally suited to chartering thanks to its clear, warm waters and rainforest fringed coastline.

The Peninsula is estimated to house 2.5% of the biodiversity of the entire world, genuinely earning its title as the most biologically intense place on earth. There is so much to see including some of the most amazing marine creatures.

The North Pacific Coast of Costa Rica is another area that provides unmatched landscape views, abundance of marine life and has amongst the best and most easily accessible diving places and conditions you can find in the country. Wildlife is plentiful as a result of the plankton rich waters in the area.

On any given day you may see a plethora of marine life ranging from frogfish, harlequin clown shrimp, seahorses, to white tip and reef sharks. You may be lucky enough to encounter a giant Pacific manta ray, or a passing whale shark.

Manuel Antonio National Park: No visit to Costa Rica is complete without a visit to Manuel Antonio National Park. The small yet vibrant town of Manuel Antonio is the starting point for many adventures into the verdant national park, the iconic local beaches, or nearby Quepos for its excellent sportfishing. The ideal time to visit this area is between December and April.

Best Time to Visit: December - April

Key Cruising Areas: Manuel Antonio has 4 beaches to check out including Playa Espadilla, situated near the entrance to Manuel Antonio National Park. Playa Espadilla is perfect for a laid back family day. Another great beach is La Playita. As the name suggests (-ita means small), this is a little, relaxing beach that sits on the north end at the far end of Playa Espadilla.

Don’t Miss: Saddle to Sea. Horseback ride through miles of open farmlands and oceanside trails in the tropical dry forest before finding a pristine white sand beach that secludes a mangrove system and estuary.

Best Spots for Wining and Dining: Mirador Oceanview Restaurant provides exotic dishes and stunning views of Manuel Antonio National Park. Dine in elegance on our cliffside perch.

Best Local Dish: Ceviche: After a day of deep sea fishing, have your chef recreate a local ceviche dish. This includes raw fish with lemon, onion, sweet pepper and cilantro.

Local Culture: Spend a day paying tribute to the diversity of this nation’s spirit at a Folkloric Fiesta. Celebrate the tico farmers and cattle ranchers as they share their stories through traditional dance, folklore and cuisine. The origins of some of the greatest traditions of Costa Rica were born amongst the tico ranchers.

Best Beach: Punta Quepos. This peninsula is equally beautiful as Playa Biesanz another popular beach. Visit in the early day and enjoy the sun and high cliffs.

IYC recommends: Manuel Antonio Eco Friendly Tour. Though one of the smallest parks in the country, Manuel Antonio National Park is the most popular - and rightfully so. Manuel Antonio is often considered among the most biodiverse parks in the world. Spanning several natural habits, this gem boasts more than 109 different species of mammals and 184 species of birds.
