Jason's interest in a career on the water began early. Growing up in South Dakota he spent his summers on the lakes and rivers around the Black Hills before joining the U.S. Coast Guard after high school with this role giving him a strong foundation in leadership and seamanship. After leaving the Coast Guard he undertook a degree in Business Administration, working in banking and as a tug boat captain at the same time, before joining his first superyacht in 1998.

Over the next 18 years Tellinghuisen worked his way up in the yachting industry earning a 3000GT Masters License. Gaining extensive experience, he captained charter yachts ranging from 21-70 meters, including the 46m Trinity Carpe Diem II and the 70m Benetti Freedom, in the popular destinations of New England, Florida, Bahamas, Caribbean and the Mediterranean.
