Newport Yacht Charter Guide

The yachting hub of Newport is best known for its affiliation with the world-class sailing regatta,
the America’s Cup. The area remains a strong draw today for yachties far and wide, with warm
winds delivering perfect sailing conditions and Newport harbor providing a chic setting at which
to drop anchor. A quick stroll along the waterfront will showcase the variety of luxury charter
superyachts passing through, while the town itself is a vacation hotspot for nearby Boston city
dwellers.

There’s something for everyone here – if you fancy an evening stroll along the Cliff Walk, a pub crawl on America’s Cup Avenue, or a stroll past the Gilded Age mansions of Bellevue Avenue and its many museums. Yachting enthusiasts will enjoy the classic sailing and power yachts at Herreshoff Museum, and the vast choice of restaurants here offers something to satisfy all taste buds.

As a seaside town and summer retreat for the well-to-do, Newport is famous – among other things -for being home to the Newport Yachting Center. Throughout the whole year, the Newport waterfront positively buzzes with cultural attractions, sailing events, and all manner of entertainment During the springtime you’ll see and hear the folk and jazz festivals from the luxury deck of your yacht charter, moored in Newport Harbour, and in the summer months, Newport’s many food and wine festivals attract connoisseurs from all over the globe. Needless to say, superb sailing can be enjoyed in Newport during the world-famous superyacht regatta, the Newport Bucket. Soak up the convivial atmosphere and admire the private superyachts lined up along the marina as you immerse yourself in all of Newport’s vibrant maritime history.

There are so many options for day trips from Newport – and even more when you travel by charter yacht. Block Island is a short cruise from Newport Harbour by yacht, lying just 23 miles from the Rhode Island coast. Here you’ll find an unspoilt community of New England culture – a timeless little retreat where the region’s nautical history can be felt all around. Newport itself has more than enough to offer its visitors, however. Take in the lavish relics of the Gilded Age as you tour the iconic Newport Mansions, and visit the restored Colonial homes of Historic Hill.

The Cliff Walk – named by National Geographic Traveler as one of fifty “places of a lifetime” - winds through the mansions along the rocky coast, making for a spectacular day trip. Visit one of the famous ‘Cottages’ – the Breaker, The Elms, Kingscote, Rosecliff, and Marble House of Chateau-Sur-Mer - owned by the Preservation Society of Newport County. Take a tour to Doris Duke’s Rough Point Estate - created by the designer of Central Park - where a spectacular display of roses and dahlias can be seen in the summer months. In the evening, choose from Newport’s many fine restaurants, vineyards, and breweries for your evening meal, and then move on, if the mood takes you, to one of Newport’s twenty local rum distilleries. Sample classic clam chowder on the waterfront, and for the best beer in town visit the Coastal Extreme Brewery.
