IYC is announcing a strong season for the charter market (based on data for the first six months of the year), already surpassing 2021 record breaking numbers. These powerful figures are in part to the lifted international travel regulations seen in popular charter destinations this past year, increasing demand in the charter market significantly. Looking at the 2022 summer charter season:
- The Mediterranean travel region saw a 10% increase in bookings compared to 2021. This strong increase was driven by an overall increase in appetite for travel, and particularly by U.S. clients who previously spent two years chartering around North America as a result of travel regulations.
- Greece saw an increasing trend in superyacht charters, remaining the number one summer charter destination globally with a 29% market share. France and Italy follow with a 20% and 19% market share respectively.
- The Bahamas and New England seem to be experiencing a slower summer season. This was expected, as a result of clients choosing the Mediterranean instead.
