Richmond Yachts established a unique position in the North American market by delivering high-volume fiberglass motor yachts that prioritized owner comfort. Founded by entrepreneur Don Davis after he struggled to find a yard capable of building his ideal vessel, the company took over the Sovereign Yachts facility in British Columbia. The result was a boutique operation focused on quality rather than quantity, producing a series of custom superyachts that feel significantly larger than their length suggests.

The brand's identity is rooted in a rare blend of Canadian craftsmanship and traditional nautical luxury. Every yacht in the fleet features a recognizable classical silhouette, often paired with opulent interiors that utilize rich woods and custom joinery. These vessels were engineered to meet rigorous international standards, ensuring they remain reliable choices for both private world cruising and high-demand charter programs.

For those researching the Richmond fleet, the focus is often on social versatility and seakeeping excellence. Most models incorporate expansive sundecks, Jacuzzi lounges, and shallow drafts that are perfect for navigating the remote coves of the Bahamas. While the yard is no longer in active production, its legacy continues through a small but prestigious fleet that still commands respect for its enduring value and robust build quality.

Richmond Yachts

An Overview of the Shipyard's History, Specialty, Iconic Builds, and Partnerships

Richmond Yachts

Richmond Yachts was founded by American entrepreneur Don Davis, when he was unable to find a shipyard to build the superyacht of his dreams. Taking over the Vancouver-based Sovereign Yachts in the early 2000s, Davis transformed the company and relaunched it under its new name, Richmond Yachts. After the construction of its first vessel, the company began making high quality semi-custom fiberglass superyachts, with a recognizable classical silhouette and traditional nautical interior.

Typically measuring between 42 (137’8”) and 46 metres (150’9”) in length, these large yachts are ideal for entertaining with a variety of social spaces found on board. The Richmond superyacht fleet includes designs by Setzer Yacht Architects and interiors by Sean Pavlik. Notable builds include the popular 142' (43m) charter vessel M/Y Far From It, which was launched in 2008, the 142’ (43.28m) 2007 launch M/Y Playpen, and 2013-launched 150’ (45.72m) M/Y Revive.
