At IYC we understand that people are your most important asset, and this includes all the crew working on board the yachts in the IYC charter and sales fleets. We know just how hard crew work to make sure the superyacht guest experience is exceptional. So we were very proud that the crew of one of IYC’s popular charter yachts – 155’ (47.24m) M/Y Loon – were named the winners of the coveted ‘Best Charter Yacht Crew’ Award at the recent ACREW Awards 2019, held in Nice on 12 October.
Loon was one of more than 20 yachts nominated in the ‘Best Charter Yacht Crew’ category, with an open public vote to decide the finalists for the best crew. Just three finalists, including Loon, then progressed to the final voting stage and were invited to submit a video showing why they deserved the title. A judging panel of professionals then made the final decision, choosing Loon as the overall winner. “We were up against some very tough competition, so it feels good to come out on top,” says Captain Paul Clarke of M/Y Loon. “These are the only industry wide crew awards for the yachting industry, and so this win is a real honour.”

The showcase video that the Loon crew made speaks for itself, showing how they have created a welcoming, enthusiastic and engaging vibe on board, to the delight of their many charter guests. As the video shows, no task is too big or too small for the team, whether it be assembling the yacht’s impressive lineup of water toys and inflatables, leading a scuba dive, hosting a special birthday celebration, or whipping up a memorable beach picnic. “We go above and beyond to satisfy our guests,” say Loon’s crew.
The ACREW awards ceremony was a Masquerade themed black tie affair, with more than 400 yachting professionals in attendance. As well as the presentation of the awards, guests were entertained by local dancers and magicians and a night of dancing. It was a very special way to celebrate these impressive achievements and to acknowledge the importance of crew.
“We feel very privileged to have won and hope to continue the high energy, high quality charters that won us the award,” says Captain Paul.
This is not the first time Loon’s crew have been in the news lately, with the yacht and crew praised for their important work providing disaster relief in the Bahamas following Hurricane Dorian in September 2019.
