Crew of charter favourite M/Y AWOL win big at ACREW Awards 2019

The recent ACREW Awards, held in Nice on 12 October, were a huge celebration of the personal achievements of superyacht crew and an industry-wide recognition of professional excellence. The Awards saw over 400 industry professionals in attendance at a dazzling ceremony and after party and 21 awards were presented to some of the industry’s finest crew. But one yacht stood out on the night for the sheer number of awards its crew received, with 122’ (37.44m) M/Y AWOL’s crew taking out no less than four individual crew awards. The entire crew were also top 3 finalists for the overall ‘Best Charter Yacht Crew’ Award.
First Officer Crew Award’ went to Barbara Clerc of M/Y AWOL. Barbara likes to manage her team by example and forward them the can-do attitude and the pride of their effort’s result. Barbara also set up eco standards onboard of AWOL which means all products the crew are using are eco-friendly, and always tries to explain to guests how to preserve the sea which is always highly valued.

Stew Crew Award’ went to Michaela Letley of M/Y AWOL. Michaela has been forging a career in yachting for more than four years and enjoys the challenges, fast pace work environment and the great detail crew put in to every aspect of their Jobs

Joint winner of the ‘Best Newcomer Crew Award’ was David Langlois of M/Y AWOL. David takes pride in what he does and with his extensive yachting experience and his friendly, energetic nature he finds joy in meeting expectations of all the guests from trips ashore to find stretch of sand or little sweet beach café etc. David is also a certified freediving instructor and enjoys underwater photography and spearfishing.

Best ‘Deck Crew Award’ went to Jason Lambert of M/Y AWOL. Jason grew up in Cape Town and, as an avid bodyboarder/surfer, has always a love and passion for this ocean. He followed this passion to find a career in yachting and can’t imagine doing anything else.

Other AWOL crew members were also category finalists for the Awards, with Slaven Mehic a finalist for the ‘Chief Engineer and ETO Crew Award’, and Giverny Jade a finalist in the ‘Chief Stew Crew Award’ category.

IYC is exceptionally proud of AWOL for this formal acknowledgement of the caliber of her crew and commends them all for this impressive achievement. With so many of the yacht’s crew topping their field, guests of AWOL can be assured of an incredible charter when on board. The crew are dedicated to creating exceptional guest experiences and the yacht has proved itself time and time again as a charter favourite. The crew have also worked hard to ensure that the impact of the yacht on the oceans she enjoys is as low as possible, with initiatives including joining the Clear Ocean Pact.
