MEDITERRANEAN EVENTS CALENDAR SUMMER 2017

With thousands of years of history the countries all around the Mediterranean are rich in culture, traditions, architecture, art and cuisine. Throughout the summer months the area hosts a glittering calendar of social, cultural and sporting events with something to interest everyone.

 

 

MAY:

  • Cannes Film Festival: Widely considered the most important event in the entertainment industry the Festival sees the world’s film fraternity descend on picturesque Cannes for twelve days of red carpets, film premieres, cocktail parties, fashion and more.
  • Monaco ePrix: A new FIA Championship, the Monaco ePrix features electric single-seater racecars capable of speeds higher than of 225km/h. The event’s objective is to showcase new electrical energy innovations in a racing environment and promote sustainability.
  • Monaco Grand Prix Formula One Established in 1929, the Formula One Grand Prix, held each year on the Circuit de Monaco, is widely considered to be one of the most important and prestigious automobile races in the world.
  • Ibiza Opening Parties: Some of the world’s best nightclubs will be opening their doors for the season in May, including Amnesia, Sankeys, Pacha, Ocean Beach and DC10.

JUNE:

  • Les Voiles D’Antibes: Since its launch in 1996, Les Voiles d’Antibes has been the first major European event of the classic yachting season for many sailing enthusiasts A fleet of legendary boats, will challenge each other over the five days of regatta and match-races.
  • Cannes Lion: The Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity is a global event for those working in the creative communications, advertising and related fields.
  • Superyacht Cup Palma: The longest running superyacht regatta in Europe, it attracts many of the most prestigious sailing yachts from all over the world.
  • Miaoulia Hydra, Greece: The annual naval festival on the island of Hydra is a three day celebration which includes traditional dancing, music and a spectacular firework show. The event commemorates the naval commander Andreas Miaoulis on his battle during the Greek War of Independence from the Ottoman Empire

JULY:

  • Monte-Carlo Sporting Summer Festival, Monaco
 Running through most of the summer, the festival brings even more glitz and glam to Monte-Carlo, with the Salle des Etoiles filled with the sounds of international artists. Since the festival began in 1974 the iconic venue has hosted some of the biggest stars, and has become an ambition of many performers.
  • Ultra Europe, Split, CroatiaOne of the biggest dance music festivals in the world, Ultra Europe boasts endless beach parties and music, set against the stunning Adriatic Coast. In previous years the line-up has included big names including Tiesto and Armin van Buuren, and draws visitors from all over the world.
  • Nice Jazz Festival: Established in the 1940s, this long-standing festival attracts jazz aficionados from all over the world and has been titled the biggest, flashiest, and most prestigious jazz festival in Europe.
  • Giraglia Rolex Cup Regatta: From the race start in St Tropez, sailors will race 243 nautical miles through the Mediterranean to the finish in Genoa, Italy. This well renowned yacht race is in its 65th year and has been won by some of the most famous racing yachts of the last half century.
  • Soundwave festival, Tisno, Croatia
 Organized by top London promoters, since it’s beginning eight years ago this festival draws many returning partiers. With a more ‘artistic’ genre, the festival hosts many street artists and illustrators, and an outside cinema hosting independent films, giving the festival a very special ‘boutique’ feel.

AUGUST:

  • Pyrotechnic Art Festival, Cannes: For seven nights throughout July and August, different countries take on the challenge to produce the most spectacular firework display. 200,000 spectators gather every night along the Croisette to admire the show.
  • Assumption Day, Greece: In every corner of the country, local communities hold a festival each with its own customs and traditions to commemorate the “Dormition of the Virgin Mary”. The largest celebration is held on the island of Tinos with a festival that lasts two days.
  • Menton Classical Music Festival: The oldest classical music festival in Europe, outdoor concerts are held at the Parvis Saint-Michel Archange and other venues around the town.
  • Lavender Festival: For over 50 years, Digne-les-Bains has celebrated their lavender harvest with a colorful festival for the senses, including parades, aioli, and folklore events.

SEPTEMBER:

  • Cannes Yachting Festival
: Set in the glittering bay, yacht companies gather to present their new releases. Yacht enthusiasts from across the world come to soak up the unique atmosphere of this in-water show, and peruse over 550 yachts on display.
  • Monaco Yacht Show, Monaco
 A huge 9,000 square metres of exhibition space is the show case for the biggest brokerages and leading innovators in the yachting industries. Held in the beautiful Port Hercules, the event attracts around 30,000 visitors who come to admire the best the superyacht industry has to offer.
  • Les Voiles de St Tropez Regatta
 Beautiful classics and stunning modern yachts gather to compete for the Rolex Trophy, encouraging supporters and enthusiasts from around the world. Thrilling races and endless on-shore social events will show you St Tropez at its most spectacular. The Rolex trophy is awarded to the winner of the Classic Division over 16 metres.
