Top Summer Charter Destinations Part 2: Secret Islands

17th July 2018
If you’ve already taken-in all that Europe’s charming coastline has to offer - from the glitzy Riviera to the craggy cliffs of Amalfi - then it’s time to venture further and direct your charter into island-life. In this week’s recommended summer destinations, it’s all about exploring the secret scatterings that break off the main lands and provide all their culture and charm with an off-the-beaten-track twist.
Kastellorizo: Greece
There’s a certain air of remoteness on Greece’s characterful islands. Perhaps it’s their distinction – no two islands here are the same – where each provides a different experience and another-world feeling, just moments from the mainland. Particularly quirky is Kastellorizo with its rich history; fine houses planted in solitary; stairs climbing high into cliff sides and the hum of conversation heard on the patios of traditional tavernettas, from the resident islanders. Anchoring off the island you’ll take in all this secret-solace has to offer; its endearing individuality; oodles of sea turtles and stunning rainbow coastline, comparable only to those of the Caribbean.

For a Greek island hopping experience, charter 28m Ithaki this season, anchoring-out from island to island and experiencing all the quirks of Kastellorizo.

Pantelleria: Italy
Going off the grid doesn’t have to equal deserted. Pantelleria is the perfect definition of a has-it-all hideaway; undiscovered by tourists but popular with celebrities and producers who use its dramatic volcanic landscape as an atmospheric filming location. Just 100km from Sicily, here lay hot springs for mud baths, azure-waters for diving and moody grottos; all to fuel adventure. Meanwhile in the town, local shops are to be explored by bike or on foot. The restaurant culture thrives here too, but excitement is found where tiny café’s peep out from rocky dens after an afternoon of undisturbed exploration.

Experience a more unusual Italy on board 44m Mim this summer. A beautiful Heesen, she’s more than suitable for the classically beautiful, yet lesser-known isles of Sicily.

The Azores: Portugal
Thermal baths, tropical climate and luscious natural lakes aren’t usually on the Mediterranean island checklist, nor are they familiar sights in Portugal’s popular Algarve. However, they are found on a small archipelago named The Azores which rises out of the Atlantic Ocean, providing an unusual base to enjoy some of Earth’s most abundant natural beauty just a stone’s throw from Europe. The landscape here is as lavish as the nightlife; secret to many but with much to indulged-in by those who venture to this island-Eden.

Head west to the Azores chartering Beachouse; at 40m and reaching a speed of 41 knots she’s more than ready to voyage out on a Portuguese adventure to some of the world’s most undiscovered islands.
